A vegan in Scotland was disappointed when she discovered that the ‘no sausage and bean’ pasty she bought from Aldi was empty. Sophie Calderwood, 26, had purchased the pastries in Livingstone, West Lothian, but both were missing their expected filling of veggie sausage and beans. Despite cooking one in an air fryer in hopes of finding the filling, she found it to be just a puff pastry casing.

Describing the product as containing seasoned soya protein pieces, haricot beans, and a vegan cheese alternative wrapped in puff pastry, Sophie, a vegan for four years, expressed her disappointment with the lack of filling in a product she used to enjoy.

After reaching out to Aldi’s customer service on social media and being advised to return to the store for a refund, Sophie decided against it, feeling it wasn’t worth the effort for a 99p pastry. She shared her experience of biting into the empty pastries and expressed her frustration at the dry and tasteless outcome.

Although she appreciated the taste of the pastries when filled correctly, Sophie expressed reluctance to purchase them again due to the risk of receiving empty ones. Despite being asked to return the product for a refund, she found it embarrassing to do so in person.

A spokesperson from Aldi apologized to Sophie for the subpar product and encouraged her to return it to the store for a full refund.
