The Vancouver Rise have welcomed new players to their team, strengthening their defense for an upcoming important match against the Halifax Tides. Chantelle Swaby, previously with Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, who played for AFC Toronto in the NSL, have joined the Rise to enhance the team’s performance as they strive for a playoff position, according to head coach Anja Heiner-Moller.
Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues around the world, including the National Women’s Soccer League, the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and France’s top division. She emphasized her ability to remain composed during intense game situations and provide leadership on the field.
Hansen, 26, expressed her excitement about returning to her hometown of Burnaby, B.C., to play for the Rise. She highlighted the special opportunity to compete in front of a familiar crowd and be closer to her family once again.
The signings of Swaby and Hansen followed the retirement of Mariah Lee, a veteran forward who decided to pursue a career in law, leading to her departure from the team. Additionally, goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan was loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season.
As the Vancouver Rise (5-9-1) aim to secure a playoff spot, trailing the Halifax Tides (6-6-3) by five points, the team acknowledges the significance of the current phase of the season. Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the team’s determination to return to the playoffs and showcase their competitiveness until the end of the season.
