The campaign and White House of President Donald Trump have decided to remove certain Taylor Swift songs from their social media videos. These videos had featured two of the popular American singer’s tracks in the past week. Both the White House and a representative for Swift have not provided any immediate comments on this matter.
Although Swift has not recently addressed Trump directly, she did endorse his Democratic opponent, then Vice-President Kamala Harris, during the 2024 election. In a social media post in 2020, Swift made it clear that she did not support Trump as president.
Trump has been critical of Swift in the past. After she endorsed Harris, he expressed his disdain for Swift on social media. Artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande have also requested that the Trump administration refrain from using their songs.
The Trump campaign utilized two Swift songs on their TikTok page over the last week. One video referenced Swift’s famous songs with a caption like “Red (Donald Trump’s Version).” Another video posted in June featured Swift’s track “I Knew It, I Knew You” from the fictional movie “Toy Story 5,” with a caption praising President Donald J. Trump’s love for the country.
This is not the first time the Trump administration has used Swift’s songs in their videos. In a video shared by the White House in April, Swift’s song “High Infidelity” was featured. Another TikTok video released in November showcased “The Fate of Ophelia” from Swift’s album “The Life of a Showgirl.”
The White House defended the use of these songs, stating that they strategically created the videos to gain attention from news outlets. Trump’s social media communications team has consistently shared videos featuring hit songs along with various images related to his policies and actions.
