An individual who passed away in Ireland due to a weather-related incident has been identified as Tommy Connors, a resident of Letterkenny in County Donegal. Mr. Connors, in his 40s, tragically lost his life after falling from a shed roof at a domestic dwelling house. Authorities are treating the incident as weather-related, and Mr. Connors’ body has been taken to the morgue at Letterkenny University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The post-mortem results will guide further investigations by the Gardaí, and a file is being prepared for the coroner. Tributes are pouring in on social media for Mr. Connors, a well-known figure in the Letterkenny community.

The incident occurred during a Status Red weather warning in Donegal on Friday afternoon. At the peak of the storm, hundreds of thousands of properties were left without power across the island. As of Saturday night, around 11,000 properties in the Republic of Ireland and 9,000 in Northern Ireland were still without power.

The Electricity Supply Board (ESB) and NIE Networks anticipate power restoration by early next week. The worst-hit areas include counties Donegal, Leitrim, Roscommon, Galway, and Mayo. ESB crews have been working diligently to address various challenges posed by the storm, with incidents reported across the island.

For instance, in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, ESB crews responded to a fallen ash tree that brought down a power line. A network technician mentioned that despite rough weather conditions, progress was being made and assured customers of restoration by the following day. He advised the public to steer clear of fallen lines and contact the emergency hotline for assistance.

Storm Amy unleashed gusts of up to 148kmh (91mph) and sustained winds of 94kmh (59mph) in coastal areas. Wind warnings were issued for various counties, with clean-up operations intensifying in the aftermath of the storm. In Northern Ireland, efforts were focused on restoring essential services like power, water, and transportation networks for all residents.
