A young child was tragically declared deceased after being discovered unconscious and unresponsive at his residence around 5 pm on Friday, October 3.

The New York Police Department responded to a 911 call from an affordable housing complex in Brooklyn where they found the one-year-old boy, Anthony Casey. The medical examiner determined that Casey suffered blunt force injuries to his torso, leading to the conclusion by the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner that his death was a result of murder, as reported by the Daily News.

Despite this ruling, no arrests have been made, and the incident remains under active investigation.

In a separate incident, a couple from Brazil, Ana Carolina Silva, 41, and Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, 37, tragically died in a scalding bath, leaving their child orphaned shortly after their birthday. The couple was found dead inside a motel, having been in a bath with a temperature of 50C.

According to local news outlet Globo G1, toxicology reports revealed high alcohol levels and traces of cocaine in their systems. Forensic tests ruled out various potential causes of death, such as electric shock, drowning, carbon monoxide poisoning, or foul play.

During the investigation, authorities examined the motel room, the couple’s vehicle, and reviewed CCTV footage. Brazil’s Chief Medical Examiner, Andressa Boer Fronza, stated that the cause of death for both individuals was exogenous poisoning, leading to heatstroke, severe dehydration, thermal collapse, organ failure, and eventual death.

Chief of Police Felipe Simão Gomes mentioned that the circumstances surrounding the deaths, combined with the substances found in their bodies, led the Civil Police to conclude that the deaths were sudden and not the result of third-party involvement.

The couple, who had been together for nearly two decades, were known as devoted parents and well-liked by friends, with no history of violence, according to the police.

Concern arose when the couple’s family reported them missing after they failed to pick up their daughter following her birthday celebration. The family had dropped off the child at Jeferson’s sister’s house after the celebration, before checking into the Dallas Motel in São José, Brazil, shortly after midnight.

After a missing persons investigation was initiated, the couple was found deceased in the motel bathroom. Medical professionals determined that their deaths resulted from a combination of heatstroke and organ failure.

Investigators revealed that Jeferson, a military police officer, and Ana Carolina, a nail salon owner, had lost consciousness in the hot water while a space heater was active. Their family has expressed suspicions regarding the circumstances of their tragic deaths.
