The British equestrian community is in mourning following the tragic death of rider Sarah Yorke, 37, who suffered a fatal fall from her horse during the Aston-le-Walls Horse Trials in Northamptonshire. Despite immediate medical attention at the event, she could not be saved. Her horse, MGH HERA, was unharmed and safely returned to the stables after assessment by on-site veterinarians.

The British Eventing organization canceled the remaining competition scheduled for the following day, encompassing dressage, cross-country, and show jumping segments. Yorke, a previous winner, was participating in the BE100 class for the first time with her seven-year-old mount.

Rosie Williams, Chief Executive of British Eventing, conveyed condolences to Yorke’s family and friends, expressing solidarity from the eventing community during this difficult period. In response to the tragedy, a comprehensive review will be conducted by the governing body, with the BE Support Trust helpline made available for support services.

The British Eventing Support Trust, in collaboration with Sporting Chance, is providing assistance and guidance to anyone impacted by the incident. Mental health professionals can be reached at 07780 008877 at any time for appropriate support.
