Tesco is offering hundreds of complimentary Christmas trees for a limited time. These unique trees, often deemed “wonky” due to minor imperfections like uneven branches or a slight tilt, are not typically sold. However, Tesco will distribute them at no cost on Saturday, December 6, in selected stores. The supermarket suggests that individuals who take a tree consider making a donation to the food charities Fareshare and Trussell.
The free trees will be available at specific Tesco locations, including Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, Goole Superstore, Glossop Superstore, Bristol Brislington Extra, Cardiff Extra, Dundee Riverside Extra, and Glasgow Maryhill Extra. Starting at 10am, the trees will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to one tree per household. Comparable Christmas trees elsewhere are priced at £13.99 from Aldi and £14.99 from Home Bargains.
Tesco’s UK CEO, Ashwin Prasad, emphasized the beauty of embracing imperfect moments during the holiday season. A recent Tesco survey revealed that nearly a quarter of Britons set up their Christmas trees on the second weekend of December. The survey also found that the majority of respondents believed that Christmas did not need to be flawless to be meaningful, with imperfect moments adding to the festive spirit. The survey was conducted by Censuswide among 2,000 UK adults between August 22 and 28, and December 1 and 2.
In another initiative, Tesco is offering Clubcard members double points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December. This promotion applies to all third-party gift cards purchased at Tesco stores. Clubcard members can earn double points on any gift card purchase, with points automatically credited to their account. Tesco has approximately 24 million Clubcard members, who earn points on groceries, fuel purchases, Tesco Mobile expenses, and Tesco credit card spending. Members can redeem points for vouchers, with a minimum of 150 points required for a £1.50 voucher to use at Tesco.
