Three in every ten British individuals show more familiarity with Donald Trump than Prince Charles, as per a recent study. A survey of 2,000 adults unveiled that 30% exhibit a similar level of knowledge about American pop culture as their own. The study highlighted that 40% of the information consumed daily originates from the US, with 23% expressing a preference for Taylor Swift’s music over Dua Lipa’s.
Furthermore, almost one in ten people possess more knowledge about the romantic lives of actors Zendaya and Tom Holland than about the Royal family – this percentage rises to 29% among individuals aged 18 to 24. Additionally, a significant 34% of this younger demographic are more well-versed in the Kardashians’ affairs than in the British TV show EastEnders.
A representative from Lottoland.co.uk, which commissioned the survey coinciding with its US £520 million Powerball draw, remarked, “There is an abundance of captivating US culture readily accessible for us to delve into.”
“From television, cinema, and music to cuisine and beverages, the US offers a plethora of elements that have permeated the UK. Even political discourse is a lively subject,” they added.
The research also indicated that 18% of respondents watch more American television than British programs, with drama, comedy, and crime genres being the favored American options.
In terms of music from the United States, pop, rock, and country genres dominate the charts, with 88% stating an appreciation for some form of American culture in their British lifestyle.
Beyond television and music, British individuals also relish American cuisine (37%), literature (24%), and sports (17%). Moreover, 15% partake in Thanksgiving celebrations in the UK, while one in ten commemorate Independence Day on the 4th of July.
Furthermore, it was revealed that Netflix, Hollywood blockbusters, and Coca-Cola are ranked as the top American exports, closely followed by Rock and Roll, Disneyland, and instant coffee.
