Morgan Geyser, known for the ‘Slender Man’ knife attack, was apprehended after escaping from her group home by cutting off her electronic monitoring bracelet. She was found at a truck stop in Posen, Illinois, following a 24-hour search that involved multiple law enforcement agencies. Geyser, along with another person, was taken into custody upon arriving at the location by bus, which is located around 25 minutes south of Chicago.
Authorities located Geyser after she was last seen in Madison with an adult companion. Surveillance footage showed her in a public building, leading to numerous tips as the search intensified. Both Geyser and the other individual were peacefully detained at the truck stop in Posen, where they were found after she removed her Department of Corrections tag to leave her living facility.
Geyser’s disappearance triggered a swift response from local and state authorities. Her mother, Angie, had made a public plea for her daughter’s safe return before she was located. Geyser, who had been under supervised care since March, was required to wear an electronic bracelet as a condition of her release, which she removed before going missing.
In 2014, Geyser and her childhood friend, Anissa Weier, lured their classmate into the woods in Wisconsin and stabbed her, believing it would please the fictional character ‘Slender Man.’ The victim survived despite sustaining severe injuries, prompting widespread discussion on online myths and mental health in children. Geyser and Weier were initially charged as adults but later found not guilty due to mental illness and were placed in psychiatric care.
Authorities are investigating Geyser’s escape route and any potential charges related to her removal of the monitoring device. It remains unclear whether she will be held in Illinois or transferred back to Wisconsin for further legal proceedings.
