After almost 36 years, two sisters have finally discovered the truth about their mother’s fate after being abandoned as young children in a public restroom. Marina Ramos, 28, was found naked and fatally stabbed in December 1989 in a remote area. Her identity remained unknown at the time.
Two days later, two girls, Jasmin at two months old and Elizabeth at 14 months old, were discovered alone in a park restroom. A passerby found them crying on the wet floor without any adults present. The girls’ identities were also a mystery for many years.
The sisters were placed in foster care before being adopted and raised together by a family. Their mother, previously unidentified, was found in a desolate area of the Mohave Desert in Arizona, where she had remained unidentified until the case was reopened in February 2022.
Investigators were able to match fingerprints from Ramos’s past arrest to her body. Subsequent DNA testing confirmed the identity of one of her adult daughters, who had been raised in Ventura County. The sisters finally learned their true identities and who their biological mother was.
Tina (formerly Jasmin) expressed her long-awaited relief at discovering her roots, while Melissa (formerly Elizabeth) also shared her emotional reaction to the news. The sheriff’s office investigator contacted the sisters with the information.
Despite these developments, the murder of Marina Ramos remains unsolved, and police are still searching for suspects. Witnesses reported seeing two Hispanic males and a Hispanic woman with the girls at the park before they were found in the restroom.
