After receiving an urgent call, law enforcement officers came across a 14-year-old girl who appeared severely undernourished, initially appearing much younger than her actual age. Following the distressing discovery, further details of her dire circumstances came to light.

The adolescent, whose identity remains undisclosed, resided in a trailer with her family. When her father, Walter Goodman, sought emergency assistance on August 21, reporting his daughter’s critical condition of vomiting, comatose state, and extreme thinness, authorities found the girl to be in a grave state of malnourishment.

Medical professionals later diagnosed the young girl with hypothermia, acute hepatitis, pancreatitis, multiple organ failures, as well as bruises and pressure sores. Shockingly, she weighed only 38 pounds, far below the normal weight range of 84 to 160 pounds for a girl her age, as indicated by Children’s Wisconsin.

Goodman, aged 47, along with his wife Melissa Goodman, 50, their daughter Savanna LeFever, 29, and LeFever’s partner, Kayla Stemler, 27, have all been apprehended for numerous felony charges related to prolonged child neglect, following extensive investigations into years of severe mistreatment.

The tragic circumstances that led to this appalling situation are now under scrutiny. The Mirror delves into the heartbreaking life of the emaciated teenager, likened by one prosecutor to a “skeleton.”

Allegations suggest that the unnamed girl endured neglect in various forms – nutritional, emotional, medical, physical, and psychological – over a distressing five-year period at her home in Wisconsin. Reports from the Mirror US reveal that charging documents indicate the abuse commenced when she was just nine years old, with the details painting a harrowing picture.

Confined to a locked bedroom where she had to sleep on a bare floor, the household adults reportedly restricted her speech and access to basic necessities such as food, water, and restroom facilities.

According to WISN, Goodman purportedly monitored and communicated with his daughter via a webcam in her room, claiming to keep her confined in this manner. Despite his assertions that she had autism and refused to eat or sleep, medical staff at St. Vincent Hospital noted her excitement at the prospect of various food options during her hospital stay.

Disturbing digital evidence unveils alarming threats allegedly made by Goodman in texts regarding his daughter, including withholding food as punishment and expressing violent wishes towards her. Additionally, Melissa Goodman, LeFever, and Stemler purportedly discussed physically assaulting the child.

In a concerning message disclosed by Fox 11, Stemler mentioned using a belt on the victim for eating more than allowed, while Mrs. Goodman expressed struggles and desires for the girl to disappear.

Medical professionals learned that the victim refrained from eating much due to her father’s disapproval, indicating that she feared his anger. It was also revealed that she had not attended school or engaged in outdoor activities for years.

Authorities confirm the victim is now in a stable condition and recuperating with extended family members. Outagamie County Assistant District Attorney Julie DuQuaine noted the positive progress in her recovery, emphasizing her transformative weight gain and improved health.

Despite initial concerns for her survival, a GoFundMe campaign supporting her recovery reports significant progress, including substantial physical growth and a positive outlook on her future. The fundraiser highlights her resilience and gradual adjustment to self-care tasks previously denied to her.

Walter Goodman recently appeared in court for a preliminary hearing, requesting more time for preparation. The court rescheduled his hearing to January 5, 2026. Stemler also had a preliminary hearing scheduled, while LeFever and Melissa Goodman were set to return for their respective hearings the following day.
