A unique underground bunker, situated in the village of Hallen, South Gloucestershire, has been put up for sale with an asking price of £20,000. This secure Royal Observer Corps bunker is a rare find, with only an estimated 1,500 similar structures remaining in the UK.

The self-contained underground space offers various potential uses, such as a private wine cellar, secure utility area, or safe room. It retains its original ROC furniture and features and is being marketed by property agents David Plaister on Zoopla.

Located on the hillsides of Hallen, the bunker boasts breathtaking views of the River Severn’s mouth and is conveniently just a 40-minute drive from Bristol City Centre. The property is described as an ideal opportunity for individuals interested in historical artifacts and unique investment prospects.

Inside the bunker, images reveal a hidden entrance surrounded by shrubbery, while the interior features white walls, a desk with chairs, storage shelves, a bed frame, cupboards, and a separate room with a toilet.

Constructed during the Cold War era, the bunker maintains its authenticity with original ROC furniture and fittings, preserving its historical significance. Access is through a locked hatch entrance with a ladder descent, following the original ROC specifications.

The listing emphasizes the rarity of such properties, with only a limited number of ROC posts remaining in the UK. It presents a distinctive investment opportunity for buyers intrigued by military history, secure storage, or unique architectural assets.

While conversion of old bunkers for alternative uses like holiday accommodations is possible, it is subject to factors such as the bunker’s status, location, and local planning regulations. Owners of other ROC bunkers have successfully transformed them into modern living spaces while honoring their historical integrity.

One such example is Jon Graves, who renovated a ROC bunker in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, turning it into a unique home. His restoration efforts focused on tastefully preserving the original features of the bunker.

The bunker in Hallen is scheduled for auction on Thursday, November 20, at Leigh Court in Abbotts Leigh, both in person and online at 7pm.
