The Ottawa Rapid soccer team has named Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. This announcement comes after the current head coach, Katrine Pedersen, revealed her departure from the team at the end of the season last month.
Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts an impressive career, having participated in three Women’s World Cups and clinching a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. With coaching experience in various countries, including Denmark, Mexico, and most recently in Saudi Arabia, Moscato brings a wealth of knowledge to the Rapid.
The team has signed Moscato on a two-season contract, where she will commence her role this year and focus on preparations for the 2027 season, particularly in the area of player recruitment. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert praised Moscato’s leadership skills, technical expertise, and profound understanding of Canadian soccer in a recent press release.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the new role, Moscato stated, “The Rapid has made significant progress in a short period. I am eager to continue this momentum and create an environment that fosters player performance, development, and competitiveness at the highest level.”
Currently leading the Northern Super League standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, Ottawa Rapid’s next game is scheduled in Calgary at 4 p.m. this Saturday, with live coverage available on CBC Gem.
