A mother and her young son from Oregon are facing a challenging ordeal as they were both diagnosed with cancer on the same day, turning their lives upside down. The McRae family, who just a month ago seemed to be living a normal life with their three children, found themselves in distress when 4-year-old Jamon began suffering from severe headaches.
According to Jake McRae, the father, the situation has been incredibly difficult as he feels helpless in not being able to do much for his loved ones. Jamon underwent a 15-hour surgery at Stanford to remove a significant portion of the tumor found in his brain, which was more complex than anticipated.
Unfortunately, the pathology report revealed that the tumor was malignant, leading to a devastating realization for the family. Jamon is now preparing for another major surgery, followed by radiation therapy and chemotherapy to fight the aggressive cancer. The father mentioned that the chances of recovery for Jamon stand at around 50%, but with the complete removal of the tumor, it could increase to 70%.
In a tragic circumstance, Britney, Jamon’s mother, also received a cancer diagnosis on the same day as her son, making it a double challenge for the family. Despite the difficult situation, the family is doing their best to cope with the treatments and care for their other children.
Jamon had a brief visit home to celebrate Christmas before returning to California for his next surgery. Meanwhile, Britney has started her chemotherapy treatment as they navigate through this tough time together.
