Leaked CCTV footage from an incident resulting in her arrest last month shows Olympic gold medalist Sha’Carri Richardson apparently pushing and confronting her boyfriend in a heated altercation.
The footage captures a moment where the USA’s Paris 4×100m relay champion appears to forcefully interact with her partner, fellow American sprinter Christian Coleman. The scene unfolds as Richardson, aged 25, reaches for Coleman’s backpack while they stroll along the concourse.
During what appears to be a tense conversation, Richardson is seen pushing her 29-year-old boyfriend against a support column.
As onlookers notice the commotion, the couple moves out of sight briefly. Upon returning into view, they are observed heading towards security, with Richardson still engaging with Coleman physically.
Another camera angle seemingly captures Richardson throwing an object at Coleman before walking away in a heated manner. Subsequently, Coleman is seen conversing with a group of police officers, as per the Daily Star.
Following her arrest and charge of fourth-degree assault, which led to an 18-hour period in custody, Richardson, part of Team USA’s 4x100m relay gold-winning team, found herself in a legal predicament. However, Coleman later confirmed that he chose not to pursue legal action.
According to the police report, Richardson informed Port of Seattle Police that the confrontation stemmed from Coleman taking her headphones. The report stated that “Richardson advised she did not assault him physically and that the disagreement was solely verbal.”
Coleman spoke out in support of Richardson in the aftermath of the incident as reported by Citius Mag, noting, “For me personally, I believe it was an unfortunate situation all around.”
He continued, expressing empathy towards Richardson’s challenging circumstances, stating, “She’s a unique individual facing various emotional challenges that not only I struggle to comprehend, but nobody can. She’s unparalleled. I acknowledge it has been a difficult year for her.”
Regarding Richardson’s resilience, he added, “She will overcome it because she is the top female athlete globally. I witness her strength daily. She will recover. She will be fine, and I will support her through it.”
