The NBA is challenging assertions presented in an ESPN report regarding the investigation into Los Angeles Clippers proprietor Steve Ballmer. According to Monday morning’s ESPN publication, three sources indicated that the NBA did not uncover any proof indicating Ballmer used team sponsors to compensate Kawhi Leonard in a way that evaded the salary cap.

The report suggested that the NBA is examining whether the team’s presentation of Leonard to sponsors breaches the league’s regulations against circumventing the salary cap. NBA spokesperson Mike Bass refuted the ESPN article in a statement issued Monday afternoon, highlighting multiple inaccuracies.

Bass stated that the outcomes of the NBA’s inquiry will be disclosed upon its conclusion. A transaction between L.A. and the Toronto Raptors concerning Leonard has been paused pending the league’s decisions on potential penalties.
