Hikers in an isolated area made a disturbing discovery of two deceased women. The hikers found the bodies near Lendenfeld Point in the alpine region of Victoria, Australia. Authorities were notified of the find just before 1pm local time.

After receiving the alert, Search and Rescue Squad and Air Wing officers responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. The identities of the women remain unknown, but authorities speculate that they may be in their 20s or 30s.

Victoria Police stated that the deaths do not appear suspicious and that the women could have been in the area for hiking purposes. The bodies were located near the Cleve Cole Hut camping area.

The Victoria highlands are a popular destination for hiking and skiing, particularly during the Southern Hemisphere’s winter. The region features hiking trails that traverse forests and high plains, offering stunning views of the Victorian Alps.

A police spokesperson has reached out to the public for information to help identify the individuals involved, as there are no current missing person reports. Due to the remote location and conditions, police will remain at the site overnight.

The bodies are scheduled for removal the following day. Authorities clarified that the women’s deaths are unrelated to the ongoing manhunt for Dezi Freeman, an alleged police killer who fled into bushland after a violent encounter with officers.

The Mirror has reached out to Victoria Police for comments on the incident.
