Dylan Cease, known more for his love of theatre than visual arts during his high school days, has now made a splash in the art world with his paintings being showcased at the Art Gallery of Ontario. The AGO shop recently unveiled a special retail collection featuring Cease’s artwork, specifically a painting that pays homage to Toronto and is currently on exhibit in Walker Court.

The collection includes a range of items such as prints, postcards, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and totes, with all proceeds going towards supporting the AGO’s charitable initiatives. Despite his lack of formal art training in high school, Cease humorously remarked that his former teachers probably have plenty of critiques about his work but accepted it as it is.

During his appearance at the gallery, Cease engaged with a group of kids from summer camps while a long line of Toronto Blue Jays fans eagerly awaited to meet him. Reflecting on the overwhelming response, Cease expressed surprise at the scale of the event, admitting that he never imagined himself in such a position.

Cease, who only started painting in 2022, has previously created artwork for charity and has now found his Toronto piece displayed in the office of Blue Jays manager John Schneider. Despite suggestions from teammates to paint himself pitching, Cease acknowledged his limitations in realistic drawing and opted for abstract art as his preferred style.

Inspired by the prospect of spending a significant part of his career in Toronto following his recent multi-million dollar contract with the Blue Jays, Cease has embraced the local culture and history. He mentioned his plans to delve into oil painting next, emphasizing that art serves as a soothing contrast to the intensity of baseball, allowing him to express creativity without the pressure of perfection.

In conclusion, Cease emphasized his genuine enjoyment of painting as a personal outlet, regardless of where his artworks end up being displayed, highlighting the joy and balance it brings to his life alongside his professional baseball career.
