A group of individuals, clad in balaclavas and brandishing weapons, caused a UK school to go into lockdown. The incident occurred at Shireland Hall Primary Academy in Smethwick, West Midlands, yesterday afternoon, where the group threatened both children and teachers.
According to a parent speaking to BirminghamLive, children witnessed the intimidating group with balaclavas and baseball bats, leading to some children being traumatized. Consequently, some parents opted to keep their children home on Wednesday, October 8, due to fears expressed by the gang about returning the next day.
Reports indicated that children were instructed to seek shelter under their desks during the ordeal. The school issued an alert at 8.30pm, explaining that the lockdown was a precautionary measure in response to reports of masked adults on the premises carrying potential weapons. Authorities were contacted, and the police intervened, advising on the necessary actions and launching an investigation.
In a follow-up email, the school reassured parents about safety measures and encouraged them to talk to their children to address any anxieties. The Elliot Foundation Academies Trust, overseeing Shireland Hall Primary Academy, confirmed the incident, stating that all children were unharmed, and the police were handling the ongoing investigation.
West Midlands Police reported responding to a similar suspicious group on Montague Road in Smethwick on the same day. Despite no group being present when officers arrived, inquiries are ongoing, and anyone with relevant information was urged to contact the police.
