Markham is gearing up for a thrilling weekend as it hosts the NTT IndyCar Series, including the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy. This marks the first time the race will be held outside of Toronto, featuring a brand-new track layout spanning 3.52 kilometers with 12 turns.
Race enthusiasts attending the event are advised to utilize GO Transit, York Region Transit, or drive via Highway 407, with parking available west of the event venue. Metrolinx is enhancing service on the Stouffville Line to facilitate travel to and from the track.
York Region Transit will offer increased services, and Markham will provide shuttle services between designated parking lots and the event location. Road closures in Markham, including parts of Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, YMCA Boulevard, University Boulevard, and South Unionville Boulevard, will be in effect until Monday at 6 a.m.
The main event on Sunday will showcase the IndyCar race, commencing at 12:22 p.m. ET. Alex Palou, the current points leader and a four-time series champion, is the frontrunner for victory. Other drivers to watch include Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, and Rinus Veekay.
Local talent like Anthony Martella from Vaughan, Ontario, and Toronto’s Chase Pelletier will also participate in support series races. Additionally, the NASCAR Canada Series will debut in Markham, featuring notable racers like Alex Tagliani, Sam Fellows, Marc-Antoine Camirand, and Jared Odrick.
Drivers are adjusting to the new Markham track, which offers a smooth surface and unique challenges compared to Toronto’s bumpy roads. Tickets for the weekend races are available on the event website, with Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions free to attend during Fan Friday.
