Police in London have advised the public to steer clear of Westminster Bridge, which has been cordoned off due to a significant incident. The closure of both sides of the bridge is causing substantial traffic delays, with emergency services, including ambulances, police, and fire crews, responding to the scene since around 11am.

Authorities have provided an update on the situation, indicating that the closure is due to concerns for the welfare of an individual on the bridge. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers were alerted at 10:12hrs and are currently engaged in discussions with the individual. They have urged people to avoid the area while the situation unfolds.

The London Fire Brigade is also on site, supporting their fellow emergency service teams with multiple units in attendance. Transport for London (TfL) has advised motorists to seek alternative routes, as several roads in the vicinity are experiencing delays and closures.

Images from the scene depict a secure cordon with ambulances positioned in the middle of the road. Bus routes in the area have been redirected, and reports suggest the closure may last for several hours. Authorities have stated that the incident is related to mental health and no injuries have been reported.

This incident on Westminster Bridge follows previous disruptions, including a recent closure in August due to mental health concerns. In a separate incident on the London Underground, delays persisted on the Metropolitan line following earlier technical issues.
