In Nottingham, time is running out for households to claim £100 in supermarket vouchers offered by the Nottingham City Council through the Household Support Fund. The deadline for applications is midnight today.
While specific eligibility criteria have not been disclosed by the council, it is expected that the vouchers will be allocated to individuals with low income or those receiving benefits. Applications can be submitted on the Nottingham City Council website.
Successful households, chosen randomly, will receive one of the 10,000 vouchers available. Even if you received a voucher from the council in April 2025, you are still eligible to apply. The council aims to notify applicants via email by December 12, with vouchers expected to be received by February 28, 2026.
Councillor Cheryl Barnard, Executive Member for Children, Young People, and Education at the Council, expressed satisfaction with the additional £1 million allocated to support vulnerable Nottingham residents during the winter months. This funding aims to alleviate financial burdens for households impacted by rising living costs.
The Household Support Fund, part of a £742 million funding allocation to local councils in England, assists vulnerable households in covering essential living expenses such as energy bills and food. For those in need, reaching out to the local council for available support is recommended.
Wakefield Council, for instance, is providing food vouchers to low-income households receiving council tax assistance. Pensioners benefiting from Council Tax Support received a £70 voucher in November, with additional vouchers planned for other households.
Starting December 15, families receiving Council Tax Support will receive a £50 voucher, while all other eligible households will receive a £70 voucher between December 3 and December 12. Blackpool Council is also offering energy assistance, with £200 for households of one or two individuals and £300 for larger households.
To qualify for support, individuals must demonstrate financial hardship and difficulties in meeting bill payments. Providing recent bank statements for all household members is necessary to claim assistance.
