British driver Lando Norris secured the Drivers’ Championship title, becoming the 11th Brit to achieve this milestone following his third-place finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Heading into the weekend, Norris held a 12-point lead over reigning champion Max Verstappen, with his teammate Oscar Piastri also in contention, trailing Verstappen by four points.

Despite missing out on a chance to clinch the championship in Qatar due to a strategic error by McLaren, Norris faced intense pressure going into the Abu Dhabi race. Qualifying saw Norris outpace Piastri to secure second on the grid behind Verstappen.

During the race, Norris lost a position to Piastri early on but managed to stay ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who posed a threat with strong race pace. Strategic pit stops and decisive moves allowed Norris to maintain his position and challenge his rivals on the track.

Verstappen’s teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, received a time penalty for defensive driving, aiding Norris in making crucial overtakes. With a comfortable gap to Leclerc, Norris extended his lead while Piastri made his final pit stop, ensuring McLaren played it safe with their strategy.

As the race progressed, Leclerc closed in on Norris, but the Brit managed his tire wear effectively to maintain a four-second gap. Finally, Norris crossed the finish line, concluding a seven-year journey in Formula 1 and reclaiming the top spot for British motorsport.
