My journey with the Labour Party began at the age of 15 while growing up in the North during the era of Thatcher. I witnessed firsthand the impact of political decisions, often leading to unfavorable outcomes.
After enduring another 14 years under the Conservative government, the victory of the Labour government last year filled me with immense pride. However, I am aware that some missteps have left people frustrated, and the process of enacting change can sometimes be sluggish.
Labour shines brightest when our allegiance is clear, serving the interests of the people and embodying our core values.
The significant legislative initiatives I have contributed to reflect this commitment – bolstering employment rights, prohibiting bonuses for water executives, establishing GB Energy, and returning rail operations to public ownership.
While I am eager for the current government to succeed, the narrative of Labour’s progress has not resonated strongly enough. With our nation fractured and divided, there is an urgent need for improvement. Our communities are reliant on the success of this Labour government, as the stakes are exceptionally high.
