Keir Starmer has criticized Donald Trump’s recent controversial remarks about London Mayor Sadiq Khan, calling them “absurd.” The US President made inflammatory comments suggesting that London leaders are pushing for Sharia law, a claim Mr. Khan vehemently denied, accusing Trump of racism and Islamophobia.

In response to ITV London’s inquiry about the President’s attack, Starmer defended Mayor Khan, referring to him as a “decent individual.” Trump’s verbal assault on Khan occurred at the UN General Assembly following his second state visit to the UK.

Starmer stated, “While there are areas of agreement between the President and myself, there are also points of contention, such as this one. The notion of Sharia law implementation is baseless. Sadiq Khan is a commendable figure who is effectively combating serious crime.”

When questioned if he concurred with Khan’s assessment of Trump as sexist, racist, and Islamophobic, Starmer avoided engaging in a verbal spar, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the two nations. He praised London’s mayor for his commendable work in the city.

During his speech, Trump criticized London’s mayor, claiming significant negative changes had occurred. In response, Khan questioned Trump’s fixation on him, highlighting his role as a Muslim leader in a diverse and successful city.

Khan remarked, “President Trump’s behavior exposes his racist, sexist, and Islamophobic tendencies.”
