Keir Starmer reflects on the significance of the Battle of Britain anniversary, emphasizing the shared values that unite us.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in the commemoration event at Westminster Abbey this Sunday, marking 85 years since the victory in World War II.
Following the ceremony, he will witness the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast, typically featuring an Avro Lancaster heavy bomber, a Supermarine Spitfire, and a Hawker Hurricane.
In a statement to the Mirror, Mr. Starmer paid tribute to the heroes of the Battle of Britain, acknowledging their bravery in defending our skies, freedoms, and future against overwhelming odds.
He highlighted that beyond being a pivotal moment in WWII, this date serves as a reminder of the core values that bind our nation together, including duty, sacrifice, and the belief in unity for a stronger Britain.
The PM is expected to meet various dignitaries at the event, including the Dean of Westminster, Squadron Leader Charlie Warden, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, and the Chief of the Air Staff.
Also in attendance will be Marshal of the Royal Air Force, The Lord Craig, the sole living officer in the British Armed Forces to have held a five-star rank while on active duty.
