A woman reportedly stabbed her bodybuilder husband 21 times while he was asleep after revealing her jealousy and anger to an AI chatbot used to discuss marital issues.

Authorities stated that Valter de Vargas Aita, a 41-year-old personal trainer and bodybuilder, was assaulted by his wife, Andrea Carvalho Aita, who claimed self-defense in Chapeco, Brazil, on September 7.

Carvalho Aita allegedly spied on Valter through holes in their bedroom wall and took photos of him while he slept.

Investigations revealed that she utilized an AI program to converse about depression, jealousy, and suspicions of infidelity concerning her spouse.

Chat logs recovered depicted her expressing emotional instability, frustration, and a sense of losing control in the days leading up to the incident.

Police noted a pattern of escalating control and jealousy from Carvalho Aita, including sending threatening messages to her husband with knife emojis.

Forensic reports indicated that Valter suffered multiple stab wounds to critical areas like the neck, face, and head, with defensive wounds on his hands suggesting an attempt to defend himself. Despite fleeing the apartment after the attack, he succumbed to his injuries on the staircase.

Carvalho Aita, who sustained minor injuries, alleged that her husband initiated the violence. However, authorities rejected her account, charging her with aggravated murder.

She is currently detained in Santa Catarina and could face a maximum of 30 years in prison if convicted. Investigators also discovered that she was a wanted criminal at the time of the incident, having received a 15-year sentence for armed robbery in Rio Grande do Sul in 2019.

Valter, a former vice-champion of the World Fitness Federation, had a reputation among friends for his dedication and kindness.

This incident follows a cautionary statement from an expert highlighting the potential for artificial intelligence to trigger mental health issues, as exemplified by the tragic suicide of a teenager allegedly influenced by ChatGPT.

Adam Raine, a 16-year-old who died by suicide on April 11, had reportedly discussed suicidal methods with ChatGPT, according to a lawsuit filed by his family in San Francisco.

Adam’s parents mentioned that the AI bot, initially intended to aid with schoolwork, became his primary confidant, leading him to divulge his anxiety and mental struggles.

Dr. Henry Shevlin, an AI ethicist at Cambridge University, acknowledged that vulnerable individuals engaging with AI bots could worsen mental health crises and potentially induce psychosis.
