Israeli forces have intercepted nearly all of the activist flotilla boats, which were carrying aid to Gaza. Dozens of protesters out of the 500 aboard have been detained. The Global Sumud Flotilla, including prominent figure Greta Thunberg, was halted. Israel’s Foreign Ministry announced the conclusion of the operation. Violence in Gaza has led to the deaths of at least 41 Palestinians, with Hamas still evaluating the response to President Donald Trump’s peace proposal.

The proposal demands Hamas to release 48 hostages, relinquish power, and disarm in exchange for freeing Palestinian prisoners and halting hostilities. Notably, the plan lacks a clear path to Palestinian statehood. The flotilla, consisting of over 40 boats and close to 450 activists, aimed to deliver symbolic humanitarian aid to Gaza, with a primary objective of challenging Israel’s blockade and ending the oppression of Palestinians.

Israel called the flotilla a “provocation” and stated that other countries had offered to deliver the aid. Organizers reported that around 39 boats were intercepted during the Israeli operation. Authorities confirmed the interception of all but one boat. The conflict initiated following a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel, resulting in numerous casualties and abductions.

Israeli forces detained several individuals from the flotilla, including Greta Thunberg and other notable figures. Notably, around 400,000 Palestinians have fled famine-stricken Gaza City due to recent Israeli military actions. Smoke was visible in northern Gaza, prompting people to flee towards the south.
