A long-standing shoe retailer in the UK is set to close one of its traditional high street stores after operating for 153 years.
Robin Elt Shoes, established in 1872 in Worcester, will permanently shut down on January 10, 2026. However, its other branches in Hereford, Ludlow, Malvern, Leominster, and Totnes will continue to operate without any changes.
Jenny Elt, the managing director, expressed deep sorrow over the closure, attributing it to the store’s lack of financial sustainability despite the long history of being a family-owned business.
She stated, “It’s a tough decision for me as a family business owner; it’s truly heartbreaking to reach this point. Unfortunately, the store’s future viability is not feasible, and we cannot generate funds out of thin air.”
