While many areas in the United Kingdom are set to experience pleasantly warm weather this weekend, the high-pressure system responsible for the sunshine could pose challenges for Freeview users.
It is widely known that television signals can be disrupted under current atmospheric conditions, which could impact viewers trying to access content over the upcoming days. The BBC has highlighted that high pressure can lead to two main issues affecting TV signals. It may result in weakened reception and the potential for signal interference from distant transmitters disrupting local service.
According to the BBC, high pressure, although commonly associated with hot weather, is not easily identifiable and can occur at any time of the year.
The warm weather conditions and high pressure are forecasted to persist until Monday, prompting Freeview to issue important guidelines for its extensive viewer base.
Freeview has advised, “Viewers in various parts of the UK might experience disruptions in TV reception from Friday, April 24, to Sunday, April 26, 2026, due to the influence of high pressure on the signals Freeview relies on.
“During this period, it is recommended not to attempt retuning your TV. Normal reception is expected to resume once the high-pressure conditions dissipate.”
These weather-related disruptions can occur multiple times annually, but there are alternative methods to continue enjoying your preferred TV programs.
For individuals with newer smart TVs featuring internet connectivity, switching to Freeview Play allows for accessing live or on-demand shows online rather than through traditional aerial methods.
Freeview highlighted that internet-enabled TVs with channel applications can still access services like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and Channel 5.
Another option is utilizing the Freeview mobile app, which can be downloaded for free and provides access to TV content.
An additional choice is Freely, a streaming platform supported by the same group behind Freeview and Freesat. Freely delivers channels via broadband instead of aerial transmission, ensuring uninterrupted service regardless of weather conditions.
Freely offers over 50 live and on-demand channels, along with features such as pausing live TV, personalized recommendations, and an interactive guide displaying current and upcoming programming.
