The father of the murdered youngster James Bulger has issued a heartfelt caution to authorities regarding Jon Venables, who may soon be released from incarceration. Venables, along with Robert Thompson, abducted and killed two-year-old James in Merseyside back in 1993 when he was just 10 years old. Despite previous releases from prison, Venables was later imprisoned in 2010 and 2017 for crimes involving child abuse images, leading Ralph Bulger to implore prison officials to maintain custody of the “predatory paedophile killer” for public safety.
Having had parole requests denied in 2023 and 2020 due to concerns about his honesty and potential risk, Venables is now facing another hearing that could grant him parole before the holiday season. Ralph, aged 59, has adamantly asserted that Venables remains a danger to society and should not be granted parole. In an interview with The Sun, Ralph expressed his fears, stating that Venables poses a greater threat today than ever before and could harm another family if released, highlighting the importance of keeping the public informed about the killer’s identity despite his anonymity order.
James’ parents, including Ralph, have been granted the opportunity to attend the parole hearing and provide impact statements, with Ralph opting to deliver his statement remotely rather than in person. He emphasized the significance of addressing the parole board directly to underscore the devastation caused by Venables and to caution against the potential consequences of his release, firmly stating his belief that Venables would harm another innocent child if granted freedom.
Denise Fergus, the mother of James Bulger, expressed her desire to confront her son’s killer during the parole hearing, emphasizing her ongoing emotional turmoil and skepticism about Venables’ rehabilitation. Denise vowed to persist in seeking justice for her son by attending the hearing to remind Venables of the enduring impact of his actions and to urge the parole board to acknowledge the continued threat he poses to society.
