A tragic incident on a farm near Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, resulted in the death of a 34-year-old man, Ryan Roberts, who sustained fatal injuries while working with a JCB. Roberts, a plant operator from Haverfordwest, was fatally injured on September 12 and was later pronounced dead at Witybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.

During an inquest at Pembrokeshire County Hall, the senior coroner Gareth Lewis heard that Roberts suffered a haemorrhage from lacerations to his liver and spleen during a workplace incident involving a JCB. The inquest was adjourned to allow ongoing investigations by the police and Health and Safety Executive.

A 60-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligent manslaughter in connection with the incident. Roberts’ family expressed deep sorrow over his sudden and untimely death, describing him as a beloved partner and father to two daughters.

Statistics from the Health and Safety Executive reveal that in the year 2024/25, 124 individuals lost their lives in work-related incidents in the UK, with the highest number of fatalities occurring in industries such as construction, agriculture, forestry, and fishing, with men being the most affected demographic.
