Chaos erupted at a major airport train link following a fatality, as confirmed by transport authorities. The incident, labeled as a “casualty on the tracks,” occurred at Gatley railway station, leading to a complete blockage of the train line between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport. Both British Transport Police and paramedics responded to the scene, where one individual was declared deceased, causing disruptions expected to extend into the afternoon.

While regular TransPennine Express services between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport have resumed, Northern services are experiencing significant delays, with some services canceled, revised, or delayed. Passengers have been advised to utilize Metrolink services instead of trains and can also utilize the Bee Network bus at no cost. The disruptions have impacted Northern, TransPennine Express, and Transport for Wales services, with National Rail forecasting delays until approximately 3:30 pm.

The railway line between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport remains closed as emergency crews work on-site. The British Transport Police reported responding to the incident at midday and confirmed that the fatality is non-suspicious, with preparations underway for the coroner’s report. Additional engineering and emergency services personnel are actively engaged at the scene.
