The Communities Minister, Miatta Fahnbulleh, criticized the Conservative Party’s track record, stating that after 14 years in power, they failed to address issues like the housing crisis and damaged public services. Fahnbulleh expressed skepticism towards the Tories’ latest proposals, citing their past failures. The Shadow Chancellor, Mel Stride, defended the Conservative Party’s economic policies, emphasizing fiscal responsibility and the need to reduce government spending. Stride announced plans to cut disability benefits for those with mild mental health conditions and restrict welfare access for non-British citizens in an effort to trim £23 billion from the welfare budget. The Conservative Party also aims to reduce foreign aid spending by £7 billion and streamline the civil service to save £8 billion. Stride asserted that only his party can be trusted with the economy, highlighting their commitment to transparent fiscal management. The Shadow Chancellor emphasized the importance of living within the country’s means and avoiding excessive spending to maintain stability.
