Travellers at Euston Station were instructed to evacuate following a security alert. A significant number of individuals left the station this afternoon after being informed about a security incident involving a suspicious item. Photos from the location depict travellers waiting outside while police vehicles were observed nearby.
Transport for London (TFL) stated that the closure of the station was due to a security alert. News Agents presenter Lewis Goodall mentioned a “full evacuation at the station” and highlighted the substantial police presence.
Goodall shared on social media, “Train staff informed me that the evacuation was prompted by a suspicious package being investigated by the police. Such occurrences are not uncommon on heightened alert days. Confirmation of the incident is pending from the police.”
A witness on social media reported, “Security incident at #EustonStation…They have relocated us to the bus station. Appears to be severe.” Another observer mentioned, “Police have evacuated the area. The fire service has also arrived.”
A video captured outside the station displayed at least three police vehicles stationed nearby. TFL later confirmed the reopening of the station shortly after 3:30 pm.
Avanti West Coast verified that all railway lines at London Euston had resumed operations. They cautioned of potential residual cancellations and delays in and out of the station, advising passengers to verify their travel plans beforehand.
The police were alerted amidst the aftermath of the fatal stabbings at a Manchester synagogue earlier in the day. The incident has been officially confirmed as a terrorist attack resulting in two fatalities and three severe injuries, with the assailant being shot dead by law enforcement.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police informed The Mirror that officers responded to reports of a suspicious item at Euston railway station around 2:45 pm. As a precautionary measure, a cordon was established, and the station was evacuated. Subsequent assessment deemed the item non-suspicious, leading to the conclusion of the incident.
