A bomb threat on a United Airlines flight from Dallas to Chicago led to an emergency landing at Lambert St. Louis International Airport in Missouri this morning. Law enforcement swiftly responded to apprehend a passenger upon the plane’s arrival, while the remaining passengers were safely evacuated.
The flight, originally scheduled for Chicago O’Hare International Airport, departed from Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport at 6:57 am local time. The diversion and subsequent forced landing occurred around 8:40 am. Authorities disclosed that the detained individual claimed there was a bomb in his wife’s luggage, prompting an ongoing search of the aircraft by bomb and arson unit personnel.
Meanwhile, the search for a missing UK Navy crew member off the north-west coast of Ireland has been terminated. Following a distress call received by the Irish Coast Guard from a UK naval support vessel, a large-scale search effort was launched. The crew member from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Tidesurge was last sighted around 10:30 pm on Friday between Tory Island, Co Donegal, and Eagle Island, Co Mayo. The family of the crew member has requested privacy as further details remain undisclosed.
Defence Secretary John Healey expressed his sorrow at the unsuccessful search for the missing crew member of RFA Tidesurge, extending condolences to the family and colleagues. The Ministry of Defence confirmed the conclusion of the search and initiation of an investigation into the incident, emphasizing that no other individuals were harmed or reported missing during the operation.
