Titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” the show will present a narrative that is uniquely Dolly, sharing her life experiences through her own words and the songs that have influenced her.
In an announcement video for the Broadway production, the 80-year-old icon assured viewers that the musical would authentically portray her life story. Emphasizing that it delves into her genuine roots, struggles, triumphs, and personal growth, Parton expressed her excitement for the project.
The musical will feature a blend of new songs crafted specifically for the show and some of Parton’s most famous hits, including “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.” Scheduled to debut in New York City on December 7, the performances are planned to run until November 21, 2027.
Parton, a legendary figure in the music industry with a career spanning nearly seven decades, reflected on the musical as a dream come true. With over 3,000 songs to her credit and over 100 million albums sold worldwide, she is a respected member of both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The musical had its premiere in Nashville last summer, drawing sold-out crowds during its six-week stint at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Director Bartlett Sher praised the deep connection audiences have with Parton, noting how she has inspired and brought joy to countless individuals.
Promising an unfiltered portrayal of Parton’s life beyond the glitz and glamour, the show aims to showcase the true essence of the iconic performer. Tickets for the Broadway production will be available to the public starting Friday, July 10.
