Dolly Parton’s extensive record of charitable acts has been extensively documented, but a heartfelt testimony from her sister sheds light on the profound impact of her giving nature. Stella Parton shared on Instagram that she and Dolly used to start their Tuesdays with early morning phone calls over coffee.

During one of their last conversations, Dolly expressed her willingness to undergo experimental treatments even if there was no hope for her, with the intention of aiding future medical advancements. Despite inquiries by CBC News regarding Dolly’s potential participation in experimental treatment at the end of her life, no official response has been provided by her publicist.

Although details on potential experimental treatments remain unverified, Dolly’s significant contribution to medical progress is well-known. In November 2020, she donated $1 million to Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center for COVID-19 research, a portion of which supported the development of the Moderna mRNA coronavirus vaccine.

Dolly publicly received her first vaccine dose on camera while playfully adapting the lyrics of her hit song “Jolene” to encourage vaccination. The administering doctor in the video, Dr. Naji Abumrad, had a longstanding connection with Dolly since their initial meeting at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2013.

An opinion piece in the New York Times by Jad Abumrad, creator of the podcast “Dolly Parton’s America,” highlighted the close bond between Dr. Abumrad and Dolly, with Dr. Abumrad being by her side in her final moments. Stella Parton expressed her admiration for her sister’s genuine character, emphasizing Dolly’s legacy of generosity and kindness that left a positive impact on the world.
