Darline Graham, the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, emerged victorious in the Republican primary runoff for the U.S. Senate in South Carolina on Tuesday, as indicated by U.S. media projections. This victory is seen as a significant win for U.S. President Donald Trump. Darline Graham was appointed to fill the Senate seat temporarily after her brother’s passing on July 11. She successfully defeated Representative Ralph Norman and is now set to compete in the upcoming November election for a full six-year Senate term.

President Trump not only endorsed Darline’s candidacy but also provided substantial financial support through his MAGA INC super PAC. During a rally in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Trump emphasized his support by stating, “I am on the ballot.”

Darline Graham, aged 62, is expected to face Democratic nominee Annie Andrews, a pediatrician, in the general election. Given South Carolina’s deeply conservative nature, Graham is anticipated to secure a comfortable victory. This primary contest serves as one of the many tests of Trump’s influence with voters leading up to the midterm elections, where he aims to prevent Democrats from seizing control of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate from the Republican party.

Despite mixed results from Trump’s endorsements this election cycle, his support for Graham was evident. Trump’s MAGA INC. contributed $827,711 US toward Graham’s campaign, as reported in the filing with the U.S. Federal Election Commission on Monday.

During a recent rally, Graham addressed a previous debate misstep where she admitted a lack of expertise in national security matters that defined her brother’s Senate career. She redirected the focus of her campaign towards domestic issues like Trump’s immigration policies and anti-abortion advocacy.

Having never held public office before her Senate appointment, Darline Graham previously advocated for individuals with physical disabilities. South Carolina has consistently supported Trump in his presidential campaigns and is not expected to influence the battle for congressional control.

Ralph Norman, aged 73 and a prominent real estate developer, suffered defeat in the primary runoff, following an unsuccessful gubernatorial bid.
