A 9-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl are facing serious charges after being accused of assaulting a 5-year-old girl in Ohio, US. The young victim, who is unnamed, went missing from a relative’s home in Cleveland on September 13 and was later discovered severely injured in a nearby field.
Both the boy and the girl are charged with attempted murder and rape in connection to the incident. While the 10-year-old girl denied the charges during her arraignment at Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, the 9-year-old boy did not show up, leading the judge to warn of a possible arrest warrant if he misses future hearings.
The victim, who is autistic, was reportedly subjected to sexual assault and urination before being found. The girl’s mother urged the judge to consider the severity of the crime and the impact on her daughter. The accused girl, accompanied by a woman in court, remained silent as her defense denied the charges on her behalf.
The prosecutor requested home detention with an ankle monitor for the girl, but the judge ruled in favor of the prosecution due to the gravity of the charges and the absence of the girl’s parents. The girl’s attorney raised concerns about her comprehension of the charges, requesting a competency evaluation.
The boy’s attorney cited car trouble as a reason for his absence from the arraignment, leading to a rescheduled hearing. The victim’s mother described the horrific condition in which she found her daughter and the traumatic experience her daughter went through, including waking up in the hospital believing she had died.
Images of the girl with significant hair loss were shared, depicting the aftermath of the assault. The mother expressed shock at her daughter’s state and the distressing moment when her daughter believed she had died, emphasizing the trauma experienced by a young child.
