A new initiative called TOGETHER, supported by prominent figures like Sir Lenny Henry, Christopher Eccleston, Mark Rylance, Charlotte Church, and Paloma Faith, has been launched to combat the rise of far-right movements and street protests led by Tommy Robinson.
The alliance, consisting of various campaigners, unions, and civil society groups, is advocating for unity in the face of efforts to sow division in communities. Comedian Sir Lenny Henry emphasized the values of love, hope, and unity over hate and fear, urging people to unite against racism.
Paloma Faith expressed her strong stance against discrimination, stating that racism is intolerable. Christopher Eccleston labeled racism as pure hatred and called for solidarity against it. Singer Leigh Anne Pinnock, known from Little Mix, highlighted the dangers of far-right extremism and racism, emphasizing the need to protect communities and stand up against hate collectively.
Entertainment personalities, along with unions like the National Education Union (NEU) and the TUC, will spearhead a social media campaign to kick off the initiative. Supporters include actors David Harewood, Maxine Peake, and Toby Jones, as well as musicians Beverley Knight, the Charlatans, and Fontaines DC.
The TOGETHER alliance aims to gather momentum for a national demonstration in London in March 2026.
