Canadian swimmers Taylor Ruck and Summer McIntosh had contrasting performances at the Pan Pacific championships in Irvine, Calif. Ruck secured a silver medal in the women’s 100m butterfly and later grabbed bronze as part of the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team, marking her fourth and fifth medals of the event, respectively.

In the 100m butterfly, the 26-year-old from Kelowna, B.C., finished with a personal-best time of 56.71 seconds, coming in second behind American Gretchen Walsh who clocked 55.15 seconds. Australian Alexandria Perkins took the bronze with a time of 56.75 seconds.

Reflecting on her performance, Ruck expressed her satisfaction, mentioning her preparation and trust in her abilities. McIntosh, on the other hand, faced disappointment after failing to qualify for the A final in the women’s 400m freestyle event despite winning the B final. McIntosh took full responsibility for the misjudgment in the morning heats and vowed to learn from the experience.

While Ruck continued to shine with a fifth medal in the relay event, McIntosh, after a rollercoaster of emotions, aimed to regroup for the upcoming races. Additionally, Canadians Blake Tierney and Ethan Ekk clinched silver and bronze medals in the men’s 200m backstroke, showcasing their prowess in the competition.
