The team secured a thrilling 34-26 victory over Mexico in overtime, with Guillaume Béland’s crucial interception sealing the win.
This victory not only brought glory to Canada but also secured their spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where flag football will debut as an event. Tachinski described the moment as indescribable and surreal, emphasizing the emotional impact of the win.
Looking ahead to the Olympics in two years, Tachinski acknowledged the significance of representing Canada on such a global stage. The women’s flag football team also made Canada proud by defeating the U.S. 27-20 and finishing the tournament undefeated, with Sara Parker being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
In response to the teams’ success, Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea expressed immense pride and admiration.
