Campbell’s has taken action against a senior executive following allegations of disrespectful comments made about the company’s iconic soup brand meant for lower-income individuals. Martin Bally, a top executive at Campbell’s, is accused of delivering a profanity-laden outburst disparaging customers, coworkers, and the products of the long-standing business in a lawsuit filed in Michigan’s Wayne County Circuit Court by Robert Garza, a former employee.
Garza claims he was terminated unjustly after reporting Bally’s behavior to management and has a covert recording to support his claims. The incident reportedly occurred during a meeting at Campbell’s headquarters in New Jersey, where Bally criticized the company and its offerings, including referring to their products as unsuitable for consumption and expressing derogatory views about specific ethnic groups.
Allegations in court documents also include Bally admitting to consuming marijuana edibles before work and making derogatory remarks about Indian colleagues. Garza reported these incidents to his supervisor but was allegedly fired shortly after without prior disciplinary issues or any communication from HR regarding his complaint.
Bally, along with other company officials, is facing legal action seeking damages for wrongful termination. Campbell’s has responded by suspending Bally pending further investigation, stating that the comments attributed to him are contrary to the company’s values and culture. The company emphasized that they are actively looking into the matter to address the situation appropriately.
