The identity of a British individual who passed away after undergoing cosmetic surgery in Turkey has been disclosed along with a photo.

Mentor Rama, aged 36, traveled to Istanbul for a hair transplant and dental treatment but tragically collapsed shortly after the procedures. Rama arrived in Istanbul’s Fulya district last week for the hair transplant and later went to a nearby hotel before visiting a dental clinic. Following his return to his accommodation, he began feeling unwell, prompting a call to emergency services. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Rama passed away on November 11.

The body of the 36-year-old was transported to the Council of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul for further investigation through an autopsy. Turkish authorities have initiated an inquiry into the sudden death, as reported by Turkiye Today.

A spokesperson from the FCDO informed The Mirror, stating, “We are providing assistance to the family of the deceased British individual in Turkey and are collaborating with local officials.”

Rama’s remains have been handed over to his family and repatriated to the UK, according to reports from Turkish media. Turkey has emerged as a popular destination for individuals from the UK seeking cosmetic procedures, albeit some cases have ended tragically.

The Foreign Office has disclosed that at least 28 British citizens have died in Turkey following elective medical treatments between 2019 and March 2024, with additional incidents occurring this year.

Turkey has become a prominent destination for medical tourism, particularly in Antalya and Istanbul, offering comprehensive “medical tourism packages” that include various services such as transportation, accommodation, and inter-appointment travel.

Many individuals opt to travel to Turkey for cost-effective treatments, with procedures like ‘Turkey teeth’ being 40% to 60% cheaper compared to the UK. Nevertheless, dentists in the UK have cautioned against traveling to Turkey for dental work due to potential risks and complications.
