A 68-year-old British man was fatally shot during a robbery incident in southern Ghana, as confirmed by local authorities.
The tragic event occurred on Friday at a bar located across from the Community Nine cemetery in Tema, approximately 15 miles east of the capital city, Accra. Following the attack, the victim was swiftly transported to Tema General Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
According to reports by Modern Ghana, the man was socializing with a group when six young individuals arrived on motorcycles, with one of them forcefully taking his phone. Subsequently, a scuffle ensued as the victim attempted to reclaim his phone, resulting in one of the culprits firing a shot before the group swiftly fled the scene on their bikes.
In an official statement, local law enforcement detailed the sequence of events, stating, “Two of the attackers approached the group, with one seizing the victim’s mobile device from the table. As the victim tried to retrieve his phone, one of the suspects fired a shot, leading the group to escape on their motorcycles. The Tema Regional Police Command has initiated a comprehensive operation to apprehend the culprits.”
Authorities disclosed that a spent 9mm shell was recovered at the scene and has been sent for forensic analysis as evidence. Additionally, witnesses have been interviewed, and steps are being taken to notify the British High Commission regarding the tragic loss of a British national.
A spokesperson from the Foreign Office, as reported by The Mirror, stated, “We are providing assistance to the relatives of the individual who passed away in Ghana.”
