A British national has passed away after undergoing a hair transplant and dental treatment in Turkey. The individual reportedly had a hair procedure at a clinic in Istanbul’s Fulya district before receiving dental work in the Ayazaga area the following day. After returning to his hotel, he fell ill and was taken to Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital, where he later died. An investigation is ongoing, and the cause of death is pending autopsy results.
According to a spokesperson from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, they are in contact with local authorities regarding the British national’s death in Turkey. Turkey has become a popular destination for affordable hair transplants, capturing a significant portion of the global market due to its cost-effective yet high-quality procedures. The Turkish Healthcare Travel Council reports that over a million individuals visit Turkey annually for hair restoration treatments, with projections of 1.1 million patients by 2025.
Tragically, there have been incidents of fatalities related to these procedures. Four months ago, Martyn Latchman, 38, lost his life after undergoing a £1,500 hair transplant in Istanbul. The clinic where he received treatment is currently under investigation by the Istanbul Province Health Directorate. Despite the clinic’s positive reputation and history of treating thousands of patients, including a branch in London, there have been concerns raised about the safety of medical procedures in Turkey.
The allure of lower costs, with hair transplants priced as low as £1,500 compared to the UK’s higher rates, continues to attract many individuals seeking cosmetic enhancements. However, there have been reports of British nationals facing complications or even losing their lives following elective medical procedures in Turkey. It is advised that individuals considering surgery in Turkey verify the credentials of their surgeon through official medical associations to ensure their safety. Additionally, it is essential to confirm the qualifications of the medical professionals performing the procedures rather than solely relying on the clinic’s reputation.
