Apple enthusiasts are in for a treat today as the tech giant is set to launch its latest iOS 26 operating system, packed with a host of new features and enhancements for iPhone users. The update includes a fresh Liquid Glass design, an intelligent lock screen, real-time translation capabilities for travelers, and a robust spam protection feature to combat unwanted calls.

Furthermore, enhancements to Messages, Mail, Photos, and the Maps app have been incorporated, with the latter now capable of recognizing preferred routes. As anticipation builds for the release, users are eager to know when and how they can download iOS 26.

While the exact launch time remains undisclosed by Apple, historical patterns suggest that the update typically goes live around 6 pm BST. To ensure a smooth download process, it is advisable to connect to a Wi-Fi network as the update is expected to be sizable. Once available, users can access it by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update.

Given the high demand for the update, installation times may be longer, especially on the release day. Additionally, it is important to note that not all iPhone models are compatible with iOS 26, with the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR being excluded from receiving the latest updates.

A comprehensive list of compatible iPhone models includes iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 15 series, iPhone 14 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 11 series, and iPhone SE (2nd generation onwards).

Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, highlighted the significant design improvements and user-focused features of iOS 26, emphasizing the enhanced user experience and productivity facilitated by the update.
