Amazon is gearing up to enhance the experience for UK users of its Fire TV Stick. A significant update to the Fire TV mobile app has been announced, introducing a variety of new functions. Previously limited to channel changing, the app is now evolving to offer much more.

With this update, the app turns a smartphone into a convenient second screen. Users can now search for content, manage watchlists, and initiate playback of shows or movies directly on their TV from their mobile device.

Furthermore, the app has undergone a complete redesign to match the upcoming Fire TV interface set to debut on screens later this year. The revamped look aims to provide a more contemporary design while also boosting performance and speed.

In addition to its new features, the app continues to serve as a virtual remote control. In case the physical remote is misplaced, users can still control channel selection, menu navigation, and volume adjustments directly from their phone.

Amazon has confirmed that the updated Fire TV mobile app is beginning its rollout in the UK today, with availability expanding to all users over the next few weeks.

According to Amazon, the overhauled app “introduces new features that will transform how you interact with your Fire TV experience.” The company highlights the app’s role as a backup remote for many users and points out that the latest version offers enhanced tools to expand entertainment options beyond the television screen.

The refreshed app now enables users to browse content, manage watchlists, and play titles on their TV, all presented in a redesigned interface that mirrors the new Fire TV experience.
