Aldi has announced a detailed roster of over 20 stores set to undergo significant enhancements by the year’s end.

The grocery store chain has disclosed plans to expand two of its locations – Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria and Ebbw Vale in Wales – with extensions slated to be completed between now and December.

Additionally, 21 other Aldi stores are scheduled to receive various upgrades, including revamped fixtures, improved layouts, and enhanced sustainability features.

Having already revamped more than 500 stores, Aldi’s upgrades have included modernized layouts, expanded space for fresh and chilled products, and wider aisles for a brighter shopping experience.

Jonathan Neale, Aldi UK’s Managing Director of National Real Estate, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing top-notch shopping experiences for customers through ongoing investments in store improvements.

Aldi is also set to open approximately 40 new stores in the UK this year, with a long-term goal of reaching 1,500 stores. The company has released a list of priority locations for new stores, aiming for sites that can accommodate a 20,000 sq ft store with ample parking and good accessibility.

Furthermore, Aldi is actively seeking locations for its Aldi Local store format in Central London, focusing on sites with a minimum of 5,000 sq ft of trading space and an additional 3,000 sq ft of ancillary space in zones one and two.

Mr. Neale highlighted Aldi’s mission to provide high-quality, affordable food to all consumers, outlining the company’s commitment to expanding its store network and enhancing the customer experience through store refreshes.

The company’s ambitious plans include the opening of 40 new stores in 2025, alongside ongoing efforts to revamp existing stores, all aimed at delivering exceptional value and service to a broader customer base across the UK.
